From Home Roaster to Debut Stage: The Beginning of Blank Coffee Roastery

Blank Coffee Roastery began humbly in August 2024 as a home roasting project driven by curiosity, experimentation, and a desire to connect people through coffee. What started as small-batch roasting at home quickly evolved into something more meaningful as we began exploring different profiles, beans, and brewing methods — always aiming to bridge the gap between everyday coffee and specialty coffee.

At the time, we didn’t even realize we were building the foundation of a brand. We just wanted to create something worth sharing.


Our First Big Leap: Hario Coffee Festival 2024

Our first public appearance happened at Hario Coffee Festival 2024 — a milestone we’ll never forget. It was the first time we served our coffee to a live audience, offered samples, and received real-time feedback from coffee drinkers, enthusiasts, and industry folks. It was our debut as a coffee roaster in Malaysia, marking the start of Blank Coffee Roastery as something bigger than a home project.

We didn’t just show up with coffee — we went in with bold ideas.


Going Experimental: Signature Drinks & Cold Brew Creations

Back then, we were deep in experimentation. Alongside our roasted beans, we featured signature coffee drinks made with cold brew, homemade syrups, and fresh juice infusions.

Some of the wild drinks we tested:

  • “Carrot Cake” – inspired by desserts and spice notes

  • “Renewal” – a twist on classic cocktails

  • “Pina Colada” – tropical, creamy, and coffee-forward

  • “Strawberries” – milk-washed strawberries with coffee

These creations were fun, strange, and unforgettable — but more importantly, they helped us understand how people experience coffee beyond a standard pour-over or latte.


Feedback That Changed Everything

The festival wasn’t just exciting — it was eye-opening. Serving hundreds of people gave us direct insight into:

  • What flavours consumers connect with

  • How our roast profiles were received

  • Which beans stood out

  • What kind of experience people expect from a specialty coffee brand

That event became a turning point for Blank Coffee Roastery.

With all the feedback, we made key changes:

  • Adjusted our roast profiles for better clarity and sweetness

  • Curated our bean selection more intentionally

  • Reimagined how people interact with our brand and menu

  • Began thinking about wholesale, coffee catering, and long-term direction

It wasn’t just validation — it was direction.


Building a Better Experience

From that moment onward, we stopped guessing and started designing experiences more intentionally. What began as improvisation turned into refinement:

  • Developing structured roast profiles

  • Exploring seasonal coffee offerings

  • Planning future pop-ups and collaborations

  • Preparing a more solid identity for Blank Coffee Roastery

Every cup, every comment, and every reaction guided us forward.


What’s Next for Blank Coffee Roastery

Looking back, starting at home in August 2024 and debuting at Hario Coffee Festival gave us clarity and momentum. We’re now working on expanding our offerings — from signature drinks and specialty beans to coffee catering services and collaborations with local communities.
